NFL Handicappers

After the NFL handicappers at NFLPicks.com have established our weekly power ratings we run through another form of handicapping analysis. We like to call this analysis the NFL handicappers checklist.

Has the bookmaker been correct in evaluating these teams in relativity to the point spread?

This will often give you an idea of whether a team is over or undervalued.

Is the scheduling of this game an advantage or disadvantage for either team?

Some examples of advantages would be if a team is coming off of a bye week. Is this a revenge game for either team? Has either opponent played a soft stretch of games against lesser opponents?

One disadvantage would be if the team had to play on Monday Night football and has a short week. If a team has played consecutive road games, having to travel across the country this could a hindrance on the team. If a team has played a brutal schedule or a number of tough games against a division opponent, it could be a let down spot.

How has each team performed in their current role as an underdog and favorite? Some teams play better as dogs while others tend to relax when being installed as favorites. Some teams tend to pour it on against the week sisters of the poor. This is more of College football handicapping angle for it is worth considering the teams role in relation to the point spread for the NFL.

Is one of the teams more of a defensive team? Is the other team more of an offensive team? Does one team figure to be able to light the other up? Will the defensive team be able to shut down the high powered offensive ball club?

Having an idea how the game will play out on the field whether a shootout or defensive struggle can be great whether you are betting the side, total, or even teasing the game. Games that feature a strong defense and strong offense and can be a great teaser bet if you feel that the defense will be able to keep it a low scoring contest.

These are just a few of the things our NFL handicappers look at before finalizing our selections. There are plenty of other situations we look at but for the purpose of keeping the article short we will end here. For winning NFL picks from NFLPicks.com check out the premium picks page.
